Big Country Y.E.S.

The email you have been waiting for is here…

YES we will be having Big Country Young Educators Symposium events this year! Abilene Christian, Hardin-Simmons and McMurry Universities, along with the Abilene ISD and N-Tune Music and Sound are happy to bring back this professional development opportunity for the young band director (as well as the young at heart!). This workshops are meant to give directors an opportunity to come together and hear a guest speaker talk about topics that actually concern you in the Band classroom (not about better ways to teach English or Math!). Additionally, it gives Directors from smaller schools the opportunity to get together with other like-minded individuals to develop relations and share ideas.

The first Big Country Y.E.S. event will take place on Tuesday, October 1st, in the Band Hall at HSU and will feature Mrs. Kathy Johnson who will be presenting on “A Judges Perspective”. Before she retired, Kathy was the band director at Argyle High School who is now teaching the Woodwind Methods courses at UNT. I am including a link to a story on Kathy’s retirement below. The clinic will last from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

The Big Country Y.E.S. events are FREE to any band director who is interested in attending. This year, we will not be trying to do the events at a restaurant or bringing in food due to the difficulties in logistics, but you are free to bring your dinner with you. We will have drinks available on site. For most events, there may be a social time after the session in which to sit and visit with the guess, perhaps at a restaurant. I am attaching a flyer to this email that contains information about the event. I hope that you will make plans to attend!
