Good afternoon,
--
There are 3 significant items that you need to know headed into the spring semester.
1. Without contacting me or the state office, each director can choose how to designate their ensemble entry - varsity, non varsity, or sub non varsity. It is up to you! Just keep in mind that you will potentially get the corresponding award. Also, if a HS marching band who attended their marching contest and got a division 1 - you MUST enter as a Varsity to receive the large size A Sweepstakes trophy.
2. Another automatic - all classifications minimum performance requirement has dropped one classification. For example, a class 4A band would now only have to play from the 3A requirements and SR the 3A level music. Directors can continue to choose to play a more difficult program, but the SR will automatically be reduced. (combine this item with the choice to enter as a NV or sub NV and you have many options)
3. All marching bands in class A through 6A will have both area and state marching contest in the fall of 2021. I wanted you to know this so you can plan accordingly. More information about area contests and state will be forthcoming.
Lastly, we will conduct live events this spring in Region 6 (no virtual events). However, they will likely look and feel different than the norm. I ask all of you to be open-minded, keep politics out of the discussion, and follow the guidelines established. After polling many directors and speaking with various administrators from different parts of the region, I have decided to modify our zoned events to minimize students mingling with students from other schools. This means we will likely use more spaces in our host schools and in some cases slit the zone in half utilizing two campuses instead of one. Another C&SR change for some contests may involve using the same 3 judges for both concert and SR.
For now, go to Texas Music Forms and enter your Solo and Ensemble event on time for your designated zone. I am asking that you stay in your geographic area and not travel to contests you normally don't attend. If you find the need to do this, please contact me prior to entering.
As always, bookmark and check our region website often - www.uilmusicregion6.com
Please forward this email to your friends in neighboring schools to ensure they receive this valuable information.
