Dear TMEA Region VI Band Colleagues,
This email is intended for band directors and teachers of students who will be auditioning for the TMEA Middle School Region Band and the TMEA 5A/6A Region Bands. This includes Middle School Region Band, West Zone Phase 1, East Zone Phase 1, and Freshman Region Band. Entries are currently OPEN on the TMEA website. Middle School Region Band Information
- The entry deadline is Saturday, November 23, 2019. If you miss the first deadline, there is a second deadline, but it'll cost you twice as much per student. Please don't miss the first deadline.
- Middle School Region Band auditions occur on Saturday, December 7, 2019, @ Midland Lee HS
- A fee of $17 for each student per instrument is in effect. There is NO campus fee.
- Our Middle School Region Band Coordinators are Stacy Mcburney (Alamo JH - Midland) and Jordan Freeman (Nimitz MS - Odessa). Please contact them if you have any questions or concerns.
- The entry deadlines for these tryouts fall within Thanksgiving week (Monday, November 25, 2019). If you miss the first deadline, there is a second deadline, but it'll cost you twice as much per student. Please don't miss the first deadline.
- Please double check to make sure you are entering your students in the correct Zone. This information can be found in our handbook above.
- You do not make entries for Phase 2 because it is a continuation from Phase 1.
- All students must be entered into Phase 1 even if they are not auditioning until Phase 2.
- Auditions occur as follows:
- Phase 1, West Zone - Monday, December 9, 2019, @ Midland HS
- Phase 1, East Zone - Monday, December 9, 2019, @ Abilene HS
- Phase 2 - Saturday, December 14, 2019, @ Abilene HS (Morning)
- Freshman Band - Saturday, December 14, 2019, @ Abilene HS (Afternoon)
- A fee of $17 for each student per instrument is in effect. There is NO campus fee.
- Students who advance to Phase 2 do not have an additional fee.
- The location of our Region Band Clinic and Concert is Wagner Noel PAC. The dates are January 17-18, 2020
- Although not all instruments are judged in Phase 1, you do indeed enter all of your students into Phase 1 of your Zone.
- The decision on which instruments will tryout at phase 1 will be determined by a committee made up of the region band chair and the phase 1 and phase 2 hosts. The decision will be based on the number of entries after the first deadline. In the past, the following instruments have been judged at Phase 1 Auditions. (flute, Bb clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, horn, tenor trombone, and percussion)
- The number of students advancing to phase 2 from each zone will be limited to the total number of musicians on each instrument that could earn a spot in either of the region bands.
- Students placing high enough in Phase 1 will advance to Phase 2 for further auditioning. The other sections will simply compete in Phase 2 for Region Band membership.
- Freshman may participate in one of several ways:
- They may simply enter the freshman all-region band process, and not be entered into the regular high school auditions (entry fee is $17).
- They may be entered into the regular high school auditions (entry fee is $17), and if they don't make the regular region bands, they may then participate in the freshman auditions, which occurs within an hour or so after the phase 2 auditions. However, the freshman student will NOT be assessed another entry fee.
- They may be entered into the regular high school auditions (entry fee is $17), and not be entered in the freshman band auditions.
- VERY IMPORTANT: If you plan for your freshman to participate in the regular (non-freshman band) tryouts, and then to participate in the freshman band tryouts if they don't make the regular band, YOU MUST ENTER THEM IN BOTH CONTESTS.
- If they make the regular band, they will simply be a DNA in the freshman tryouts.
- Your payment invoice will indicate that you pay twice for them; however, when you send your entry fee, you will simply indicate which students are entered twice and that you are only paying once for them.
